Binge Eating Disorder
What is Binge Eating Disorder (BED):
It is a type of eating disorder that involves feeling like one’s eating is out of control. Someone suffering from this disorder feels like they cannot stop eating even when they are full. A person may eat quickly even when they are not hungry. About 3% of women and men have BED although is is more common in women than men. People who are obese are at a higher risk of having BED although people who have a healthy weight are any risk as well.
What are the symptoms of BED?
- Eat more food than other people do in the same situation
. - Feel like you can’t control how much you eat
. - Feel upset after you binge
- Eat much more quickly than normal
- Eat enough to be uncomfortably full
- Even when you’re not hungry you eat a lot
- Eat alone out of embarrassment, so no one will see how much food you’re having
- Feel guilty, disgusted, or depressed about your eating
- Have low self-esteem
- Diet a lot
- Lose desire for sex
