What is Binge Eating Disorder (BED):

It is a type of eating disorder that involves feeling like one’s eating is out of control. Someone suffering from this disorder feels like they cannot stop eating even when they are full. A person may eat quickly even when they are not hungry. About 3% of women and men have BED although is is more common in women than men. People who are obese are at a higher risk of having BED although people who have a healthy weight are any risk as well.

What are the symptoms of BED?

  • Eat more food than other people do in the same situation.
  • Feel like you can’t control how much you eat.
  • Feel upset after you binge
  • Eat much more quickly than normal
  • Eat enough to be uncomfortably full
  • Even when you’re not hungry you eat a lot
  • Eat alone out of embarrassment, so no one will see how much food you’re having
  • Feel guilty, disgusted, or depressed about your eating
  • Have low self-esteem
  • Diet a lot
  • Lose desire for sex

What are the treatments for BED?
